Germany is setting its sights on hosting the FIFA World Cup in either 2038 or 2042. According to Axel Hellmann, president of Eintracht Francfort and a board member of the German Football Association, the country possesses all the necessary infrastructure to stage the global tournament successfully.

"We would be delighted to bid, and an initiative of Neuendorf and the DFB is underway to present ourselves in 2042, or even 2038, depending on FIFA regulations," he stated.
Current FIFA rules present a hurdle for a 2038 bid. Because the 2030 World Cup will partially take place in Europe across Spain and Portugal, rotation guidelines require two intervening tournaments outside of Europe before the continent can host again, following the 2034 tournament in Saudi Arabia.
Despite these regulatory barriers, German officials remain optimistic. "A candidacy is conceivable for 2038, but I am convinced that for 2042, we have an excellent chance of leading a successful campaign," Hellmann noted, while hoping FIFA might show flexibility regarding the two-cycle rotation rule.
Meanwhile, competition for the 2038 tournament is already heating up internationally. The United States has expressed early interest in hosting the event, and France has also emerged as a potential co-hosting partner, though DFB officials maintain it remains too early to finalize partnership structures.
